The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his third album the album was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role small stages played in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

He also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in improving facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The concept that funds from performances in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

He is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

Back when the band earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman the singer stated that the act would give their prize money to the organization the charity.

During 2002, musician she split her prize between several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," the artist told the media.

In recent years, the band donated their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year M People gave their award to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had saved several small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
